English language evidence for a licence
If you had a licence in the past, the GMC’s current rules mean that you can get your licence back without a new test of English language competence.
On the other hand, if you are applying for your first ever licence, then you need to achieve the minimum required scores in either the Academic IELTS or the OET certification exam, the two English language certifications accepted by the GMC.
The GMC could also accept alternative proof of your English language knowledge in a very limited number of scenarios. These are highly specific, though, and you most likely have to take Academic IELTS or the OET and score as above.
How fast can I get my UK medical licence back?
Once all the necessary documents are in place and correct, it will likely take less than three weeks. Of course, the speed in your case depends on the GMC. It could take longer if they ask questions or require additional document.
We advise strongly against making promises to your employer. If in doubt, consult with us first.
Why not keep my licence permanently?
Keeping your UK licence requires you to have an Annual Appraisal, no matter where in the world you practise. Then, every five years you will have to pass a Revalidation assessment.
To decide whether you truly need your UK licence or not, contact us to arrange a consultation.
If you keep your licence, you could use our UK Annual pre-Appraisal for Docrors for a successful Appraisal.
